Positive Things in a Negative World


Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (NIV)

I know a little girl who told her mom that when she feels sad sometimes, she likes to think of happy things like pizza and coffee.  Her mom found coffee an odd thing to think about since this little girl didn’t drink coffee.  After more discussion the mom found out the little girl liked to help her mom make the coffee and the best part was pouring some chocolate sauce in the cup and tasting the chocolate.  That is why she liked to think about coffee.  I am not sad, but news of elections, hurricanes, floods, crazy mood swings in the economy, and long list of things we could worry over can consume my thoughts.  Today, like that little girl, I am going to think about simple things that are pure and lovely and POSITIVE!  It is shifting my vision off the waves and focusing on Jesus.  Here’s a few lovely things on my good things list:

Rain in the forecast (a woman can hope right!)

90 degrees instead of 100’s

Hummingbirds at my feeder

A red knockout rose-bush that has bloomed all summer (in a drought, in 100 degree heat)

Fresh tomatoes from my plant

Being healthy enough to exercise daily

A husband who really loves me after 39 years

And finally the little girl in this blog, my granddaughter Lucy, an almost fourth grader who is wise!  Love thinking about her and her ability to see happiness in the simple things in life.  I may just get a cup of coffee and a slice of pizza and enjoy this lovely day God has given us!
