Fear NOT!

I never dreamed that the phrases Follow Me and Fear Not would be what I gleaned from reading the Gospels for #Lentchallenge. In the book of Luke we see Jesus asking fishermen to do what fishermen never do, fish in the day. Fishing happens when it is dark and the fish are at the surface of the water. The fishermen did what he asked them to do, and they caught a lot of fish, in fact two boats full.

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” Luke 5:10b

So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. Luke 5:11

I was going to a Bible study by Andy Stanley called Follow as I was reading through the Gospels. On week 3 he told us that not being afraid when bad things happen is one of the best benefits of following Jesus. Fear NOT! These are strong words, but so needed in my heart.

When I was finishing the Book of John I noticed that when Jesus returned from the dead he also sent his disciples out to fish in daylight once again. He started his ministry with them having to trust Him and before He was resurrected, He asked them to trust Him once more.

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. John 21:6 NIV

One of the first passages of Scripture I learned was John 16:33.NIV

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV

By following Jesus he assures us we are going to be okay, no matter what this world throws in our path. Two phrases have transformed my heart!  Two phrases I will never forget:

Fear NOT!

Come follow me!

My Joy

wall

Wall of rock

Succulents tucked between stones

Spilling over

Growing joyfully.

He said He wanted

To leave me His JOY!

He tucked it in

The crevices of my heart

Deep so it wouldn’t wilt.

Planted with love and care

It grows and blossoms

Even in the dry times,

Even in the stormy times.

He promised

His JOY.

It always

Brings beauty to the

Broken places.

And I am complete

In His JOY!

John 15:11 (NIV)

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

Under the fig tree

fig tree

I thought I was hidden

Under the fig tree.

Shaded

By branches,

But not hidden from

Your Eyes.

You saw me there,

And You called me

To “follow”.

When my friend

Came and told me,

You were

The One,

The One who knew me,

Even before I saw You,

Heard Your Voice,

Felt Your Peace,

I ran to You

So fast,

I left my shoes,

Under the fig tree.

Steps

RSCN1004

This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.  ~1 John 3:19-20 (NIV)

Steps

The sun is up.

You beckon me,

To step,

To step through a torn veil.

To step onto a solid rock.

To step into peace.

As I walk in the light

Of Your face.

And step into Your love.

Path of Peace

by Thomas Mues

Luke 1:79 (NIV)

to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.

I tread this path

Bought with your Life.

The path called Peace.

Where You lead me,

Where I find You,

When I seek your Face,

When I abide,

When I live,

When I

Breath in,

YOU!

Hummingbirds

I miss the zooming sound

They have been gone for days.

They have flown away.

Hummingbirds have

Migrated.

Tiny, solitary, mighty, little bird

Flying through deserts

Over oceans.

No map.

No compass.

No backpack.

His voice is their

Compass, map,

Encouragement

For the long hard journey.

If the hummingbirds can make it,

So can I,

So can you!

Listen for His voice

Listen for the still small voice.

Trust Him to direct

Your migration path.

Go little bird go!

He changes times and seasons;
he removes kings and sets up kings;
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding
(Daniel 2:21 ESV)

Greedy

DSCN0408

Copper colored pellets of turtle food

Slip through my fingers slowly

As greedy turtles push and shove

For more, more, more.

I feel greedy as well.

Greedy for time

For more, more, more,

TIME!

More time between trials,

More time with Him,

More time to breath.

Just more.

The years are slipping not so slowly

Through my fingers.

But I don’t know who is

Gobbling them up.

It wasn’t me or the turtles!

Morning in August

Deck chair

Warm tea.

My drummer ear hears drumming sounds,

Morning sounds.

Hummingbirds buzzing

Dive bombing competitors.

I listen more .

Roses singing.

My ear hears,

Faintly…

The still small voice.

I sip my tea,

And lean in.

The birds and roses

Are silent.

But the still small voice

Whispers.
